They were mostly planters and farmer. The colony depended on its farmers to supply the towns with food to eat ande crops to sell. Many indentured servants were used to work on the farm and run it. Members had to donate to the Colony to remain in good standing. The entire structure was based on the Calvinists doctrine at the time. Otherwise one was banned from the society and forced away from the colony.

As for the mercantilist buisness here in the bay, England exports rum and goods to the colonies, and in return slaves were imported to the carribean for sugar and other needed goods to here in the middle colonies. Even though many restrictions were put on us, we are able to grow and became more prosperous. There are many advantages we received from this system, when trade regulations were not rigidly enforced. we experienced many disadvantages to the mercantilism system since to Britain there whole existence was to support the mother country.
